FAQs

How do I get started?

The first step is to call or email us, and make a consultation appointment.

We will collect some basic information about your project, such as room type, design concept, and time line. Then we'll schedule a meeting with you, at the location where the work will be done.

At our first meeting, we'll discuss your project, and look at colors and styles.
Our Decorative Paint consultants well bring a color deck and sample boards, to help with color choices and their portfolio for design ideas, but each of there designs will be unique and individual in some way.

Decorative Expressions will create a finish that will fit your lifestyle and design concept. We take notes, and measure the area, so that we can provide you with an estimate for the cost of the project.

Each technique involves different products and number of layers, so a firm price will be quoted when you have made your final decision on the area, colors and decorative wall finish to be used.

Do you charge a consultation fee?

No, there is no consultation fee.

Do you work with new construction?

Of course! If your project is new construction, we can look at the blueprint and design plans, or visit the job site, to determine the best course of action. The time frame will fit within the existing build plan of your contractor.

Can I see samples of your work, and interview your company?

Yes. Simply call and schedule a meeting with us and we'll show you our portfolio of decorative finishes,  we will go trough sample boards until we find the finish that works with your home, or we can create a custom sample for your space. You can then decide whether to move forward to the next step — which typically would be a estimate.

Will I see a sample of my design?

Absolutely! Decorative Expressions will create a custom sample board for your project. Decorative Expressions will not begin with the application until you are happy with and sign off on all of the sample board.

Do you charge for custom sample boards?

Yes, there is a $150.00 fee that will go toward your project cost.

Will the walls look exactly like the sample?

Since the sample board is typically a 16"x 16" board, you should expect slight variations. Existing texture can play a role in the overall look, but we try to get the sample as true to the project as possible. Keep in mind that this is hand finished unique artwork. We always make sure you are satisfied with the end result.

What is your specialty?

We focus on trend-setting wall finishes — primarily with the use of decorative glazes and  plasters.

How do you decide which materials to use?

The plasters we choose come from many different vendors, and many different parts of the world. Not being obligated to a single vendor allows us to use the appropriate, highest-quality materials for each project.  Some of our clients are seeking a desired result, so that often dictates the products we choose. However, many of our clients have an idea of what they want, but they aren't sure of how to get there. We'll always develop a sample board of each finish for your approval, taking into consideration fabrics, flooring, colors, textures, and room size. Most importantly, we listen to what our clients are looking for in their space.

What happens after our initial meeting?

If you're ready to proceed to the next step, we'll provide you with an estimate for the cost of your project. This estimate is primarily based on the  square footage of the wall surfaces to be finished, so we'll need to measure the area.

Each technique often involves different products and labor costs, so a firm price will be quoted once you have made decisions on the area, color and finish to be used.

After receiving a quote, am I obligated to proceed with you?

No. Once you receive the quote you can move forward, ask for clarification, get a revision, or do nothing, but if you decide to do nothing you do lose your $150.00 consultation fee.

What should I do before you start my project?

If possible, please remove any breakable objects and art work, and store them in a safe location. Have your furniture placed in the center of the room, and remove wall hangings from the walls.

Decorative Expressions will discuss what type of base coating is required. In some cases, it will be necessary to have an area prepared, prior to beginning the project. Any preparation requirements will be discussed and outlined beforehand.

Can I use the room while the project is in progress?

Yes you can. We will clean up at the end of each day, and store our supplies in a designated space (preferable in the garage), for as little disruption as possible.

How long does a project usually take?

Every project and every space is different. Typically, a single room takes between two to three days. The number of layers and difficulty will determine the exact length of the job. Drying time is also something that can't be rushed.
